Artist Statement
Light and shadow define a space and capture both a moment in time and timelessness itself. When taking photographs, painting, or drawing, I use light and shadow to share the feelings these combinations form through their combination of contrast, gradation, and shape. Presently, I have been combining these mediums through collage, layering my own drawings and photographs to create surreal imagery.
Often, I am drawn to the built environment or industrial structures. When I include the human figure I aim to tell a story or add further metaphor, some personal and some more universal. Most importantly, each image is the outcome of some sort of connection; often it is between a place and myself, between the forms within the image itself, between something specific to something universal.
Finding these connections while creating images leads me to more curiosity. This is why I have been continuing to explore different mediums and work both abstractly and representationally. I hope the viewers of my work can find their entry point to their own moments of wonder at the many relationships that are possible.
