A Margin of Influence: Artists and the books that inform them
Curated by Raymond E. Mingst and Arthur Bruso
Opens Friday, May 8th, 6-9PM & Saturday, May 9th 1-6PM
Open weekends through Sunday, May 31st, 1-4PM
Curator’s Statement: For artists, a book may provide direct inspiration; other times it suggests atmosphere, context, or a parallel line of thought. The relationship between the artwork and the book may take many forms. The book might have informed the work’s research, influenced its ideas, or simply shared a mood or sensibility with the piece. Rather than illustrating literature, the exhibition seeks to reveal the intellectual and emotional landscapes that accompany artistic practice. Books may include fiction, poetry, theory, history, philosophy, or other texts meaningful to the artist’s process.
Exhibiting Artists: Agnieszka Wszolkowska, Alvin Quiñones, Brad Terhune, Dorie Dahlberg, Elliot Appel, Hank Yaghooti, Josephine Barreiro, Laura Lou Levy, Nanette Reynolds Beachner, Peter Delman
