Gail Winbury’s studio is in Manufacturers Village, East Orange, NJ. She was born in Chicago, lived in Massachusetts and in New Jersey. Once a year she lives in Mexico and produces collage.  Winbury studied for over 15 years with Chinese American artist Dorothy Jung, at the School of Visual Arts-Manhattan, with artist Joan Snyder and in Europe. She had a residency at SVA, a visual arts fellowship in Italy and was awarded an artist exchange/residency from the Jewish Federation for Arad, Israel. Recently she participated in a residency in Cape Cod with master artists Michael David and Brenda Goodman. Winbury has won such awards as the Curtis Hilliard Memorial Award in 2001, and the Curators Choice Awards in 2015 and 2016 and was just selected to show at the !4C Art Fair.

     Winbury has had over 8 solo exhibitions.  She has shown in the Jersey City Museum as well as several other museums, universities and private galleries in the United States, Italy and Germany. Recently her work was seen St. Peters University Fine Art Center and OTAContmeporary in Santa Fe, NM. She will have an exhibition at The College of Morris this fall. Her work is many publications including: in a book on Bach’s Cello Solos, an Italian Art Catalog, and a catalog from her 2016 solo exhibition. 

     Winbury’s background as a psychologist merges seamlessly with her interests as a professional artist. A series on aging and mortality was precipitated by the death of her parents. Her painting s explores such themes as female sexuality, aging and mortality, identity and other psychological concerns of the human condition.
