Pro Arts Jersey City

Seven artists will participate in the Curator’s Choice Exhibition opening in April at the 371 Gallery, First Street & Warren, in downtown Jersey City. The artists were chosen as the top portfolios reviewed at the recent Portfolio Review Day held at the 371 Gallery. The Reviewers and their choices are: Independent Curator Ann Aptaker and Marshall Jones; NJ Visual Arts center Curator Mary Birmingham and Sarah Becktel; Theresa Mahoney Art Gallery Director Virgina Butera and Lynn Saville; Lower Manhattan Cultural Council Residencies Program Manager Sean Carroll and Laura Gravenstine; Gallery Aferro Director Evonne Davis and Debbie Teicholz and Alonzo Smith; The NJ State Museum Fine Arts Curator Margaret O’Reilly and Vince Salvati.

Over 30 artists brought their work to the one day portfolio review for 20 minute one-to-one reviews. The six professional reviewers decisions came after rounds of agonized discussion. As one reviewer exclaimed,”The quality of the work was outstanding. The difficulty in choosing just one portfolio: extremely difficult.”
