Throughout his more than 45-year history as a contemporary artist, Mr. Pinkman has created a substantial oeuvre. Having started painting in elementary school, his early works were being displayed in high school and seen in alternative spaces in New Jersey and New York City in his twenties. By incorporating marks made with his non-dominant hand he creates a structure that determines the basis for the images that emerge. The final works flow back and forth from representation to abstraction.
His early connections with non-profit art communities established a lasting commitment to helping other artists. Working as a curator throughout he has been responsible for hundreds of exhibits of new and underrepresented artists. He is currently a Co-President and VP of Visual Arts Programming at the Watchung Arts Center where he installs exhibitions at least six times a year.
The artist’s work has been included in exhibits in the Lourve, Paris; World Trade Center, New York; Drawing Rooms, Jersey City; Monmouth Museum, Lindcroft; and the Watchung Arts Center, Watchung among others. The source of Mr. Pinkman’s creativity is his introspective and observational nature. Some specific places have been highly influential – Borrego Springs in CA; Provincetown, MA; Counties Roscommon and Leitrim, Ireland and Dehli and Jaipur, India. Mr. Pinkman currently resides in Plainfield, NJ where he maintains his studio.
