The work of Patrick McCoy combines the sublimity of industrial materials with the starkness of space. Working and living in Belleville, New Jersey as a sculptor he received his BFA from William Paterson University. Patrick seeks to achieve a minimally primitive presence with these works, not unlike standing stones. Weathering and durability are important aspects of his work.
Statement:
I search for the spiritual significance in all objects. These objects are modern in material and sensibility but they evoke the prehistory power of sacred sites and the objects that inhabited them.
The marker – the objects that stand at a place for a time.
The votive – the objects that stand in for you and continue your thoughts and promises.
The totem – the objects that say who you are to the world.
