Heather Williams was born in St.Croix, USVI, and raised in Brooklyn. She obtained her graduate degree in Art Therapy from Pratt Institute allowing her to use creativity to support families affected by domestic violence for ten years. Throughout her career, her passion for making art has never ceased. She continued taking art courses and has studied at Art Students League, Educational Alliance, and New York Studio School. After becoming a certified Montessori teacher and working with young children for eight years, she has come full circle and is currently pursuing her Master’s in Fine Arts at the School of Visual Arts in Manhattan. Heather has exhibited in many exhibitions and her work is in several private collections.
Artist Statement:
Much African artwork has a specific purpose, often connecting the past with the present. My work is sculptural and reflective. When I paint I find images such as bodies or faces emerging organically. This is my connection to my ancestors as I use my work to explore, compare and contrast various ideas.
