Guillermo Bublik is an Argentinian/American painter based in New Jersey. His works are easily recognizable by their bold combinations of colors and abstract geometric forms. Commonly described as highly kinetic, they create a strong illusion of motion, which he achieves by inserting asymmetric shapes in unexpected places within repetitive patterns. He further adds a sense of vertical movement by his use of warm and cool colors, together with a gradual change in both the scale and the sharpness of his geometric forms.
Statement:
My skin tingles every time I face a blank surface, reflecting the excitement I feel not knowing where my imagination will take me. I start with a few marks: shapes and colors from recent dreams. From then on the painting grows organically, a call-and-answer conversation between what is on the canvas and what must follow.
While working on a piece, I purposefully expose myself to chance. I am fascinated with the idea that, when forced to overcome unintended consequences of our actions, we sometimes improve our lives in very noticeable ways. I believe that having to incorporate those “oops” moments into the whole work of art lends vibrancy to the final product.
