Hank Yaghooti’s work charts an evocative journey through the hidden corridors of the psyche, where figuration, esotericism, and symbolism interlace to conjure a world both uncanny and emotionally resonant. Using acrylic, watercolor, ink, and spray paint, he transforms ordinary materials into alchemical compositions that pulse with archetypal energy and psychological depth. His fragmented figures—at once intimate and strange—act as mythic mirrors, revealing the shadowed inner dramas of the human soul.

Rooted in the tradition of expressionism but deeply personal in voice, Yaghooti’s art blurs the boundary between the seen and the unseen, inviting viewers into a contemplative dance with mystery, shadow, and transformation. Each piece becomes a threshold between the familiar and the otherworldly, where the imaginal realm asserts its vivid autonomy.

A BFA graduate of New Jersey City University, Yaghooti’s work has appeared in art spaces and events such as the Jersey City Art Studio Tour and Artworks in Trenton, and has been featured in Beautiful Bizarre magazine. His two self-published books—Black Lines In A White World (2008) and Chameleon (2015)—further illuminate his visual and poetic sensibilities. His pieces reside in private collections and remain accessible via his website. Through all his creative forms, Yaghooti explores the cryptic architecture of the soul—inviting a dialogue with the ineffable, where meaning unfolds through shadow, myth, and the ever-shifting contours of the imaginal.

Statement:

My work is a search for the divine through image—a descent into the imaginal where language fails. Emerging from the interplay of mood and environment, each piece is born of fluid, ambiguous imagination. The canvas becomes a vessel for psychic material, a space where the unconscious takes form through shifting appearances, materials, and symbols.

As an artist, I move like a chameleon—mutable, responsive to inner and outer conditions. My process is less about control and more about alchemical transformation, where thought, feeling, and matter converge. Ideas are living entities—meme-like, daimonic, autonomous—changing and adapting as they incarnate through line, color, and gesture.

Drawing from archetypal and personal imagery, my work reflects the soul’s ongoing individuation. It holds the tension between the seen and unseen, the conscious and the unconscious. Each image invites the viewer into a symbolic encounter—a mirror through which their own inner landscape might emerge.

In this way, my paintings are not fixed meanings but open portals, shaped by the dynamism of psyche and world. The artist, like the image, must remain in flux—ever attuned to the deeper patterns unfolding within and around them. Through this, the work becomes not a product, but a living process: a dance with shadow, mystery, and transformation.
