Beth Fisher is a multidisciplinary artist who has worked in her field for over 20 years.  She is a portrait artist who paints in oils and creates mixed media headdresses comprised of fabric, lace, and beads.  Beth grew up in Northern New Jersey and graduated from William Paterson University with a Bachelor of Fine Arts and a teaching degree.  She has taught painting and drawing and at a fine art school in Hoboken for over 15 years where she assists in curating three shows yearly. Being commissioned for her first portraits at age 16, she found creating the spirit of the individual to be as important as a visual likeness.  Beth has created murals and home decor art in historic districts.  She has participated in numerous auctions for charity, created paintings for cancer research fundraising, and has exhibited work in galleries in the New Jersey / NYC region for over 20 years.

Statement:

My portraits are psychological landscapes of moments in time.  I began my headdress series 15 years ago and have always been interested in found objects and antiques. Growing up surrounded by nature, provided me introspective opportunities.  While my paintings are solitary and represent my singular experience, they embody a collective unconscious.  Tea-stained lace and beads create patterns and texture on the canvas.  Use of light, shadow, and color define mood.  Old masters’ paintings from my travels abroad, subconsciously influence my art.  I invite you to peel the bandage off, look underneath.
